「アフリカ」と聞いて、どんなイメージを持っていますか？
力強い文化、カラフルな布や音楽、あるいはニュースで見聞きする社会問題。でも、私たちが知っているアフリカは、ほんの一部かもしれません。
今回のイベントでは、西アフリカ・ガーナ出身のカブキさんをゲストに迎え、アフリカをめぐる思い込みやステレオタイプをひもときながら、文化、社会、そして女性たちの暮らしについてお話しします。
「なぜアフリカの女性たちは、ヘアスタイルをよく変えるの？」
そんな身近な疑問を出発点に、女性たちの表現、美意識、家族やコミュニティとのつながりについて、リアルな声を聞きながら一緒に考えます。
英語が得意でない方でも大丈夫です。どうぞ気軽にご参加ください。

Kabuki Bartey
ガーナ出身。ガーナ中央銀行員。現在は京都の大学で研究生活を送っている。研究テーマは、サステナビリティ、金融、教育、そして社会に前向きな変化を生み出すこと。制度や組織が人の可能性をひらき、より包摂的な社会づくりにどう関わることができるのかを探求している。
また、児童文学『Why Am I Brown?』の著者でもあり、子どもたちに向けて、自分らしさやアイデンティティ、異なる文化を尊重することの大切さを伝えている。金融、教育、文化を行き来しながら、よりよい未来づくりを大切に活動している。
Kabuki Bartey is a central banker from Ghana and is currently pursuing her studies in Kyoto, Japan. She is passionate about sustainability, finance, education, and social impact, with a particular interest in how institutions can create positive and inclusive change.
Kabuki is also the author of the children’s book Why Am I Brown?, a story that promotes self-confidence, identity, and cultural appreciation among young readers. Through both her professional and creative work, she is committed to empowering individuals and contributing to sustainable development.
When you hear the word “Africa,” what kind of images come to mind?
Powerful cultures, colourful fabrics and music, or perhaps the social issues we often see in the news. But what we know about Africa may only be a small part of the story.
In this event, we will welcome Kabuki, a guest speaker from Ghana in West Africa, to explore some of the assumptions and stereotypes people may have about the African continent. Through conversation, we will learn about culture, society, and the lives of women from a real African perspective.
Why do many African women change their hairstyles so often?
Starting from familiar and accessible questions like this, we will listen to real voices and talk about expression, beauty, family, and connections within the community.
You don’t need to be confident in English to join. So please feel free to come and enjoy the conversation.
